Quality Certification Services is a private certification company that offers organic certification to farms, processors, handling operations and aquaculture facilities. Despite USDA‚ not yet ruling on organic aquaculture standards, QCS has pushed ahead with organic labeling for shrimp farms. Although the company avoids using USDA‚ seal for certified organic products, the fact that other products it certifies are USDA-accredited as organic can be very misleading for consumers. QCS bases aquaculture standards on applicable portions of USDA organic livestock standards with three additional rules: the origin of aquatic animals must be consistent with a recommendation of the National Organic Standards Board, fish meal standards must be consistent with NOSB task force recommendations, and phosphates must be prohibited. The recommendations made by the NOSB have not been finalized or adopted at this point and are likely to be modified before USDA implements a program for certifying organic aquaculture. The fish feed standards that QCS follows could lead to a depletion of wild fish stocks by allowing farmed fish to be fed fishmeal with too high a percentage of wild-caught fish.

During the last week of April, the Hong Kong Hotels Association (HKHA) surveyed 100 Hong Kong-based overseas travel advisers and decision-makers from multinational companies and travel agents. More than 70 percent of respondents say they are concerned about contracting SARS on flights, and just 22 percent are concerned about getting the virus from hotels.
The survey was launched to better understand when companies would relax travel restrictions on their employees to Hong Kong, and whether the WHO advisory lifting would signal the go ahead for most business travellers to come back to the territory.
Results of the survey show that 41 percent would immediately relax restrictions when the WHO travel advisory is lifted. Another 42 percent say they will relax travel restrictions if there are no new atypical pneumonia cases over a period of 10 consecutive days.
A majority of respondents also say they would feel more comfortable knowing hotels have increased sanitary measures and health checks in place. “We believe that temperature checks will give a greater sense of safety and hygiene to guests staying in our hotels, and to our employees, themselves, and their families,” Mark Lettenbichler (pictured), HKHA chairman said.
In the weeks ahead, the HKHA says it will have to work with the trade to reassess the impact SARS has had on investment, and rebuild confidence. Thirty-five percent of those surveyed said the SARS outbreak had a damaging impact on Hong Kong’s appeal as an investment centre.
“The whole of Hong Kong needs to address this issue, and HKHA member hotels are keen to work with all parties to reinstill confidence. Our association believes that the Government’s plan of allocating HK$1 billion to launch a recovery campaign will help rebuild the Hong Kong brand, and our members are ready to play a part,” Lettenbichler said.
Average citywide hotel occupancies in Hong Kong for the month of April was 19 percent, and a recent spate of layoffs at the Hyatt Regency are not encouraging signs toward confidence-building. Hotel participation in the “We Love Hong Kong” campaign, designed to boost consumer spending locally at hotels and on local tour packages has not helped to boost occupancies much, either.
James Lu, HKHA executive director said just 200 additional room nights were sold since the launch of “We Love Hong Kong” on May 1. However, he does not foresee a continued downward trend in business as long as the SARS virus is a short-term problem.
“People are our biggest asset. I don’t think other hotels will have to go to that extent of letting go their personnel, unless this really turns into a long-term issue,” he said.
Early next week, the HKHA will have a link on their www.hkha.com.hk site, a collective voice informing readers of where the association stands on atypical pneumonia, offers a ‘voice of reason’ to some of the hysteria behind it and hygiene best practices.
Why Good Partnerships Go Bad
June 28th, 2010One of the most common structures for law firms is a business partnership. There are many reasons why, but if you consider that it is probably the most difficult arrangement for doing business, you would think that attorneys – some of whom are the experts in the creation and dissolution of business entities – would avoid them. Yet this is not the case. In fact, some lawyers join and leave partnerships more often than some people buy new cars.
What is a partnership?
A partnership is a voluntary relationship between individuals or entities, characterized by cooperation and responsibility and intended to focus on a common goal. It is a contract between competent persons for pooling their money, goods, labor and/or skill with the agreement that profits will be divided between them, and that they will use the partnership entity to conduct business for their mutual benefit.
In the qualitative sense, partnership is characterized by accord, affinity, collaboration, fraternization, support and friendship. Many law firms are known for being viable partnerships that work to represent the interests and skills of each shareholder in the best possible manner. Some firms even evidence that spirit of cooperation that makes a partnership incredible and fun – bringing profit and goodwill to all the participants, including staff and clients. This, obviously, is the ideal firm. However, firms do not usually start out that way, and many never even approach it.
Why do so many firms fall short of the ideal?
The short answer, of course, is because there are humans involved. Nevertheless, it might be helpful to consider that the people who become attorneys have a determination that propels them into law school and to do what is necessary to pass the bar exam. This process of education and examination hones their innate drive into a focused, goal-oriented person. This places members of the legal profession among the most educated and trained in our society.
When a new lawyer passes the bar, what does the future hold? Often it is as an associate in a firm. This is where the real training begins. Associates are expected to be able to think on their feet, to do whatever partners do not want to do, to adapt to rigid rules of the court, and to substitute for other attorneys at the last minute with little opportunity to prepare and little knowledge of the case they are representing. All the while, order and decorum must be maintained. This training process helps them to become great client advocates and – when you add the billable hour expectations of many firms – it also builds their endurance (tolerance for pain). Over time, the process yields its likely product… an attorney with a “warrior” persona, prepared to subjugate their own needs in the service of their clients. This is the high and noble calling of the profession.
Concurrent with all this training, the internal motivation of the person continues to develop. While the qualifying process is taking place, their initial motivation, drive or vision is becoming strengthened as well. Often kept at bay with the promise of future rewards – partnership, private practice, social status and/or better-than-average compensation, this drive must come into self-expression. Goal-driven, status seeking and reward focused, the next logical step for many is either partner or private practice. The strength of character required is similar, but it is at this point that the challenges diverge. Our purpose here is to address the challenges facing the partners in firms.
“Making partner” is a goal for most associates and, for them, it is as important – often more so – as marriage. Of course, it also brings all of the obligations, but very different rewards. Like the marriage ceremony, partnership brings on a new era – filled with new duties that have to do with the successful running of the firm itself and with meeting the expectations of the other partners. It is here that the groundwork is laid for the future of the firm.
Large firms have developed cultures that incubate associates to fit in. Those who do become partner. The others leave the firm. Smaller firms, however, are made up of lawyers who either did not fit into the mold of the larger firms or wanted more control over their destiny.
Law school friends, who trained in different firms and disciplines, may decide to begin a practice together. A few associates in a practice area of a large firm may opt to begin a boutique firm. Regardless of the course of their arrival, the attorneys who become the partners of small and medium firms, immediately face two new challenges in addition to the need to generate and service their own book of business – cooperation with the other partners to mutual objectives and fulfilling their share of the obligations of managing the practice.
However, nothing in their training has prepared them for meeting the shared, yet sometimes clashing interests and expectations of their partners. Law school does little to prepare attorneys for the business necessities of running a practice. Most law firms do not train the associates in it either. Up to the moment of becoming a partner, the attorney’s career has been largely a solitary performance and the rewards have been commensurate with it. It is at this time that the repressed, but strong internal motivators – combined with the “warrior” persona tend to rise to the surface. Without the training for business, this personality does not bend easily toward cooperation – even when appropriate and beneficial to his or her own interests.
Partnerships are formed for a variety of reasons, usually based more on hope than research. As partners, financial rewards are based upon the shared performance of all partners. However, often the partners do not share the same objectives or circumstances. Sometimes the approach to fees is similar. Other times it is drastically different. Firms are founded where the partnership may consist of a litigator, a family practice attorney, a personal injury lawyer and an insurance specialist. In firms like this, the issue of how to compensate the partners becomes a major issue due to the differences in cash flow and funding requirements. Even in boutique firms where fee structures are not a concern, the necessity of managing the practice still exists. Determining who is best suited to handle the various issues of conducting the regular business of the firm; hiring, managing and terminating staff; and keeping the books is not an option, but a requirement.
In these situations, the responsibilities may be parceled out, but usually little reward is given for doing the management work. In smaller firms, rainmaking is power. The best rainmaker often shirks other responsibilities because it is necessary to bring in the cash to keep the firm operating. The other partners end up carrying more of the management load. This means their opportunities to bring in new cases further declines. Soon, non-alignment, resentment and disrespect set in.
Combine that with the warrior inclination and the lack of training in cooperative communication and you have fertile ground for growing troubles. This is often complicated by the inability of the partners to find convenient times to discuss the issues, so they get put off and the resentment may turn into discord or repressed hostility. If one of the partners is particularly successful in bringing in cash, resentment and discord quickly become antagonism and outright warfare. These are the antithesis of true partnership.
Recognition, Resolution and Growth
All firms must face these challenges at one time or another. The largest firms have confronted them and designed solutions to address them, enabling growth and prosperity for partners with a divergence of talent and skills. Smaller firms have a harder time due to the perception of a lack of time and funds to overcome the problems.
The keys to passing through this phase: recognition, telling the truth about it, a commitment to the growth of the firm above self-interests, communication with your partners so that everyone wins, finding the right combination of new business generation, client service, firm management and partner relations.
Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed winning formula. Each partnership must face the challenges and design its own solutions. Generally, when mutual respect and acknowledgment of the value of all aspects of work done for the firm are the rule, solutions can be designed to enable firms to grow beyond these difficulties. As with most things, the earlier that this is recognized and accomplished, the greater the likelihood of success and growth.

Control Your Anxiety Panic Attacks
June 27th, 2010Control your Anxiety Panic Attacks through recognizing the Panic attack symptoms.
You have everything inside you that you need to overcome your panic attack and the related anxiety. The problem is, often we don’t realize that we have the tools let along being in control to implement that which we need to control the anxiety and panic attack. Why? because we feel so out of control at the time. But the tools are there, you just have to develop the internal skills to use them effectively and we will talk about this latter in this article.
Let’s first look at the barriers we put up that are preventing us from becoming healthy and getting rid of or control anxiety panic attacks and stress. What is it that we do that causes the panic attack? What is it that causes the anxiety, what is it that causes the stress. For lets face it if we delete the stress, we control the anxiety which stops the panic attacks.
All very neat but a long way from reality, isn’t it? Why? Because we need a degree of stress in our lives, we use stress to invigorate our actions and improve our personal health. Excess stress however leads us to excessively smoke, drink or eat. Physical activity drops and a feeling of a general loss of esteem develops as we start to feel bad about ourselves. So balance is the key if we are to stop panic attacks and avoid long term reliance on panic attack medications.
We talked about barriers that cause anxiety and panic attacks. So what are these barriers we build that develop into the grounds for a panic attack. We will look at the three key primary issues that most problems can be brought back to
The first is obsessive negativity.
When you are obsessively negative, it means that you have a tendency toward being “negative” about people, places, situations, and things in your life.
Secondly you have obsessive perfectionism.
When you engage in obsessive perfectionism, you are centered on trying to do everything “just so” to the point of driving yourself into an anxious state of being. You may find yourself making statements such as, “I have to do this right, or I’ll be a failure!” or “If I am not precise, people will let down or maybe be mad at me!”
Finally there is obsessive analysis.
When you are obsessed about analyzing things, you find yourself wanting to re-hash a task or an issue over and over again. I must have forgotten something!” or “If I let things go/don’t do them my self, things will go wrong!”
All sound familiar to you don’t they and the reason why is because we all do them, time and time again. However some people just get obsessed about a certain point and then over analyze the issue beyond all reasonable levels. They build doubts that lead to fear that traps them in a spiral, leading ever down words taking there self worth, their ability and self esteem with it. This results in the development of anxiety and potential panic attacks
Some people are more susceptible than others to stress; for some, even ordinary daily decisions seem insurmountable. Deciding what to have for dinner or what to buy at the store, is a seemingly, monumental dilemma for them. On the other hand, there are those people, who seem to thrive under stress by becoming highly productive being driven by the force of pressure.
What are the symptoms of a Panic attack. There are quite a lot of issues that lead to panic attacks as each individual reacts in a different manner under the same conditions. Many may react in a different manner, under the same set of circumstances, should they be exposed to it again. Let’s look at the key points that cause the reactions within our body to stress, anxiety and panic attacks
Stress is the way our body and our mind react to something, which upsets our normal balance in life. During stressful events our adrenal glands release adrenaline, a hormone which activates our body’s defense mechanisms causing our hearts to pound, blood pressure to rise, muscles to tense, and the pupils of our eyes to dilate.
The principal indicator of stress are as follows;
An escalation in your pulse rate;
(however, a normal pulse rate doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t stressed).
Constant aches and pains,
Palpitations,
Anxiety,
Chronic fatigue,
Crying with out reason or over small issues,
Over or under- eating,
Frequent infections,
Decrease in your sexual desire
These are sure signs you may notice, which indicate you may be under stress and indirectly heading for a possible panic attack. Of course, every time we are under stress, we do not react the same as we may not be under as much duress or fear the next time we are confronted with a stressful situation.
Anxiety, on the other hand, is a feeling of unease within the body usually reflected in a queeze stomach, muscle aches and pains and a lightness in limbs.
It is normal to feel anxious when facing something difficult or dangerous and mild anxiety can be a positive and useful experience. Its as we pointed out earlier when we stated a degree of stress and anxiety is good as it improves our performance.
However, for many people, anxiety interferes with normal life. Excessive anxiety is often associated with other psychiatric conditions, such as depression. Anxiety is considered harmful when it is very prolonged or severe. It often appears during a stressful event and continues on after the stressful event. If it is interfering with everyday activities such as going to work or family life it is very important that the suffer of anxiety seeks medical assistance in dealing with the issue.
Unlike stress and panic attacks the physical symptoms of anxiety are caused by the brain sending messages to parts of the body to prepare for the “fight or flight” response. The heart, lungs and other parts of the body work faster. The brain also releases stress hormones. Untreated anxiety is as bad as stress as it will lead into a full blown Panic attack. Such attacks can be totally debilitating and lead to complete breakdowns as previously outlined.
Understanding you stress levels and how you respond under pressure are important to your ongoing health. With this understanding you can make the right choices in the type of work you undertake or the positions you accept in regards to the stress them will apply on you.
Finally anxiety and panic attack medications are now widely available and can be prescribed through your local medical practitioner. As part of the treatment the doctor may refer clients for mental evaluations. Such evaluation will help the individual identify the issues, suppressed or otherwise, that need to be overcome if a full recovery is to be achieved.

The decision was guided by a reading of the state Penal Code with respect to aggravated circumstances, he explained, but also after consulting with the families of the victims, many of whom are also related to the defendant. Lyons was supposed to settle a civil suit with his brother the morning he allegedly shot and killed the couple in their Mesa home. His trial is slated for April.

June 27th, 2010Define Google AdSense
AdSense may be one of the fastest and easiest ways to monetize traffic to your web site whether you have products or services for sale or you simply provide free content to your visitors.
Simply stated, Google AdSense enables website operators to place some code on their site that connects to Google’s ad server content database and pulls keyword-relevant advertising onto the web pages. The webmaster gets paid a percentage of the fee that Google receives from the advertiser every time a visitor clicks on an ad. There is no charge for the webmaster to participate in AdSense. All costs are covered by the advertiser who participates in the AdSense sister program called AdWords.
Google sends out digital robots which use proprietary algorithms to parse the host web page and analyze the content in an effort to determine what keywords are relevant. It reports its findings back to Google ad server which then serves ads matching those keywords. Given that the entire process is automated, the ad robot do a pretty good job of getting the advertising content right most of the time.
The History of Google AdSense
Google AdSense has its roots in the old Google Content-Targeted Advertising program which they introduced back in March of 2003. Although this program was similar in concept to AdSense, there was no automated way of participating. Each webmaster negotiated a deal directly with Google, and websites that served less than 20 million page views per month were not welcome to participate.
As Google grew, they began to see how much money they were leaving on the table by excluding the smaller sites, which greatly outnumbered the sites serving over 20 million hits that were willing to serve other people’s ads. Their answer to that problem was AdSense which has no minimum traffic requirements and is open to all sites meeting Google’s content and decency requirements. Make a visit to Google AdSense Site and sign up. Make sure that you read their Acceptable Use Policy and that you follow their content requirements. Google has their own AdSense Police who will have no problem booting you out of the program if you fail to walk the line.
How much can you make running Google AdSense?
The answer to that question depends upon three factors:
1. How much traffic your site draws
2.How many visitors click on your ads
3.How much those ads pay per generated click
With some ads paying as much as $5 or more, it is possible that you can generate a serious income with AdSense. There are relatively well documented cases of some people earning as much as $500 per DAY and more. Numbers like that are rare exceptions however. Even so, there is no reason why you can earn somewhere around $1,000 per month, or more, once you get the hang of it.
How to get started using Google AdSense
Make a visit to Google AdSense Site and sign up. Make sure that you read their Acceptable Use Policy and that you follow their content requirements. Google has their own AdSense Police who will have no problem booting you out of the program if you fail to walk the line.
Using Google AdSense on your site is like collecting free money. There no reason not to do it and potentially thousands of dollars worth of reasons to do it.

Central Heating Systems… the facts.
June 27th, 2010In the current climate with rising energy costs and increased demand it is essential that you understand wherever possible the options that you have available to you at all times in relation to your choice of Central Heating Systems.. In this article I hope to be able to shed some light and a bit of background information on a couple of options if you decide that you want to investigate further. To most people their concept of what Heating System you choose revolves round purely is going to be Gas powered, Oil powered and powered by electricity but the choices you are have in front of you also relate to what type of system you install as well.
There are two regular types of central heating system installation styles; you could either choose to place the main boiler unit on the wall, usually in a kitchen or perhaps a small outer room or cupboard of a house or apartment.
The other type of boiler installation is floor mounted, if you have sufficient space in perhaps some kind of exterior alcove or small outer room of the house this may be appropriate.
Ground installed boilers
The more bulky ground mounted boilers are usually more powerful and tend to have a higher output than the wall mounted boilers. Their weight is often around 150 kg and they can occupy an area of about 100 x 60 x 60 cm. Generally installed in the cellar or in an outer annex, floor mounted boilers are highly suitable for heating installations for the entire house.
The power output will be between 23 and 90 kW.
Condensing Boilers
These boilers are considered as the most effective, recovering additional heat from water vapour after combustion. Instead of being exhausted whilst still at a temperature of between 110 and 250 ° C, the fumes from condensing boilers are cooled to a minimum, the heat being used within the system. The gain may go up 15% compared to none condensing boilers.
The principle of low temperature condensation has been implemented in the most current condensing boilers, to further improve their performance.
They are particularly suited to under-floor heating or simple heating radiators. Condensing central heating boilers have a broad power range from 8 to 65 kW or more.
As I mentioned it is vitally important that you understand exactly what options you have in front of you. Your choice of which system you want to install can have a major impact on your household bills and it is perfectly reasonable to take a view that in today’s economic climate that it is essential to try and achieve economies wherever possible.
It is not possible to avoid central heating bills and to do so would be extremely counter productive but it is perfectly reasonable to take as much care and planning into what system you choose. A responsible supplier will be only too happy to advise with regards to which tariff you are eligible for and contrary to public perception a conscientious and responsible supplier will realise that a happy customer is going to stay with them for along time and as such everyone wins.
